# Semantic Web Gang: Wikipedia for Data

![](https://web.archive.org/web/20081219175909im_/http://www.readwriteweb.com/images/readwritetalk_apr08.jpg)This month’s [Semantic Web Gang podcast](https://web.archive.org/web/20081219175909/http://semanticgang.talis.com/2008/05/02/april-2008-the-semantic-web-gang-discuss-a-wikipedia-for-data/), syndicated [on ReadWriteTalk](https://web.archive.org/web/20081219175909/http://readwritetalk.com/2008/05/02/semantic-web-gang-wikipedia-for-data/) and featuring RWW’s Alex Iskold, is up now. The main topic is Bret Taylor’s idea of a [Wikipedia for Data](https://web.archive.org/web/20081219175909/http://bret.appspot.com/entry/we-need-a-wikipedia-for-data), which RWW covered [here](https://web.archive.org/web/20081219175909/http://www.readwriteweb.com/archives/where_to_find_open_data_on_the.php). The gang (which btw is like a quieter and more polite version of the Gillmor Gang!) looks at the role that semantic technologies should play in connecting diverse pieces of data together within and between organisations. The discussion also explores the possibility of a disconnect between academic and commercial Semantic Web.

The regular members are joined by special guest [Georgi Kobilarov](https://web.archive.org/web/20081219175909/http://gkob.wordpress.com/) from the Free University of Berlin. This podcast was recorded just before the recent World Wide Web Conference in Beijing.

Note: Bret is also the founder of FriendFeed and was interviewed with his co-founder on [ReadWriteTalk](https://web.archive.org/web/20081219175909/http://readwritetalk.com/2008/02/04/bret-taylor-paul-buchheit-co-founders-friendfeed/).
