# Open Media Web: Online Music

![](https://web.archive.org/web/20111004063517im_/http://rww.readwriteweb.netdna-cdn.com/images/lucas_gonze_jan08.jpg)An interesting new online video series, called Open Media Web, [debuted today](https://web.archive.org/web/20111004063517/http://openmediaweb.org/index.php/2007/12/31/episode-1-lucas-gonze-of-yahoo/). The first episode is an interview with Yahoo’s [Lucas Gonze](https://web.archive.org/web/20111004063517/http://gonze.com/) – who created music playlisting service [WebJay](https://web.archive.org/web/20111004063517/http://webjay.org/), [acquired by Yahoo! in January 2006](https://web.archive.org/web/20111004063517/http://www.readwriteweb.com/archives/yahoo_acquires.php). The interview was conducted by [Chris Messina](https://web.archive.org/web/20111004063517/http://factoryjoe.com/) and [Brian Oberkirch](https://web.archive.org/web/20111004063517/http://brianoberkirch.com/). In it Gonze discusses his thoughts on the Open Media Web, on user-respectful business models and coercive business practices, and business opportunities for open systems and data.

Lucas Gonze is one of the smartest people around in online music. In the video he discusses not only Open Media Web theory, but practical examples including last.fm and MySpace. He says the latter doesn’t allow their music Flash player to be used externally in badges, which he generally labels “coercive behavior”.
