# Flurry of Web 2.0 Business Activity

[weblogsinc bought](https://web.archive.org/web/20060106061511/http://www.paidcontent.org/pc/arch/2005_10_05.shtml#051691) by AOL for [between $20-35 million](https://web.archive.org/web/20060106061511/http://www.techcrunch.com/2005/10/05/aol-acquires-weblog-inc/).

SocialText (the wiki company) is returning to open source.

[PubSub has announced](https://web.archive.org/web/20060106061511/http://blogs.zdnet.com/BTL/index.php?p=1976) an open source structured blogging initiative.

Flock, the social browser, is [expanding their beta](https://web.archive.org/web/20060106061511/http://www.techcrunch.com/2005/10/05/flock-expanding-beta-today/). I went along with Mike and Fred from TechCrunch to check out their office, which is literally in a garage in Palo Alto. Mike has a great photo of one of the developers asleep there!

Very Start-Up 2.0 and I feel privileged to have seen that 🙂

A whole lot more is happening, including a bunch of new Web 2.0 services debuted at the conference. [TechCrunch](https://web.archive.org/web/20060106061511/http://www.techcrunch.com/2005/10/05/the-companies-of-web-20-part-2/) and [ZDNet](https://web.archive.org/web/20060106061511/http://blogs.zdnet.com/BTL/?p=1980) both have extensive coverage. The ones getting most buzz in the hallways of the conference are [Zimbra](https://web.archive.org/web/20060106061511/http://www.zimbra.com/) and [Orb](https://web.archive.org/web/20060106061511/http://www.orb.com/).
